Poster of the EGCA European Cup 2025

The first ever EGCA European Cup was held in the city of Thessaloniki, Greece from 27th to 30th November 2025 head organized by Kleio Thessaloniki in cooperation with European Goalball Club Association. The tournament was played at the Sport Hall of the Mandulides Schools (address: 12th km of the Thessaloniki – Nea Moudania National Road, Thermi, 57001, THESSALONIKI). Floor material of the hall is wooden parquet. The teams and referees were accommodated at the Ambassador Hotel, that is located only 15 minutes drive from the venue and 10 minutes drive from the Thessaloniki Airport.

PARTICIPATING CLUBS & GAME SYSTEM

There were 6 participating clubs in the competition: Kleio Thessaloniki (GRE), FSBU Gothenburg (SWE), GC NAIS (SRB), Keravnos (GRE), Pirsos (GRE), USV Hercules (NED)

Teams played a single round robin during Friday 28th – Saturday 29th November. On Sunday 30th November there were the gold medal game for Top 2 ranked clubs of the round robin, the bronze medal game for teams who were ranked at spots 3-4 in the round robin and the places 5-6 placement game for clubs who were ranked at spots 5-6 in the round robin.

A team earned 3 points from a victory, 1 point from a tie and 0 points for a loss in the round robin. The ranking of the teams in the round robin will be determined with following system:

a) Earned points

b) Goal Difference – subtracting a team’s goals scored against from their goals scored in the total round robin

c) Number of Wins – teams will be assessed on the number of wins in the round robin. Teams with the most wins will be given the higher ranking.

d) Goals Against – the team with the lowest goals against in the overall competition will be given the higher ranking.

e) Goal Difference – The same procedure shall be used again, but this time only the games in the round robin between the teams that have to be separated shall be included.  In the event that a tie occurs between more than two teams, the above criteria will be used, in order, until one team has been separated.

f) If two clubs are still tied after criterions A-E the extra throw competition may be organized to determine the ranking of the teams.

ATHLETE RULES IN THE TOURNAMENT

(1) All the clubs who have taken part in the Champions League qualification stages and not qualified to the Final Stage have a chance to apply for the EGCA European Cup. EGCA Competition Committee will make a ranking of the clubs after the qualification stages and in this order the clubs will be invited to the European Cup tournament;

(2) A team must name minimum 4 and can name maximum 6 athletes to its squad at the EGCA European Cup;

(3) All the athletes who have participated at he qualification stage of the Champions League and their team didn’t qualify to the Final Stage are eligible to participate this cup tournament but they must represent the same club than in the Champions League;

(4) Only an athlete who has participated at the Final Stage of the Champions League is not eligible to play in the European Cup;

(5) Unclassified athletes (also sighted) are allowed in the European Cup;

(6) A club can use a maximum of one foreign player for each EGCA European Cup. This foreign player can also come from outside of Europe.

(7) An athlete is not considered a foreign player if one of the following criteria is met:

A. The athlete has the same nationality as the country from which the club originates.

B. The athlete permanently resides in the same country as the club.
Attention: In unclear situations, EGCA may ask the athlete to provide proof of residence.

C. The athlete has participated with the club in the national goalball league or championship competitions for the last two consecutive seasons.
Attention: In unclear situations, EGCA may request confirmation from the national goalball federation.

D. The athlete has participated with the club in EGCA competitions for the last two consecutive seasons.

(8) If the athlete has represente other club in Grand Prix, Youth Championships or Women’s Champions League the athlete can Still participate in the EGCA European Cup.

(9) Failure to comply with registration rules results in a 10-0 loss in the game.

Another referee representative

The tournament is played under the existing IBSA 2025 goalball rules.

Protest: A protest should be given literally to the chief referee or EGCA representative within an half hour after a game. Protest fee is 100 € and it must be paid by cash at the same time than a club is leaving the protest to the chief referee or EGCA representative. You can find protest document on the official table.

If the protest is acknowledged, the money is given back. If not, the money goes to the EGCA for development of club goalball.
