EGCA – CHAMPIONS LEAGUE & WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Please download the 2026 Champions League and Women’s Champions League Rules and Regulations below, together with the Stage Organiser requirements and responsibilities. A summary of the athlete rules is also available below.

EGCA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE & WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ATHLETE REGULATION 2026

(1) A team can name a maximum of 10 athletes in its squad during EGCA Champions League 2026 season (qualification stage + final stage). The line-up must be informed by a team no later than 30 days before the start of a qualification stage or the Final Stage. For Women´s Champions League, this has to be done 30 days before the tournament starts. The roster has to be registered with EGCA using an official form or online system.

(2) An athlete can represent only one club during a Champions League season except female athletes who can play for one club in the Champions League and for another in the Women’s Champions League.

(3) There must be always minimum 4 and maximum 6  registered athletes / team at a Champions League or Women’s Champions League stage.

(4) There must be always a minimum one IBSA classified athlete in a squad of a team at a Champions League / Women’s Champions League  stage.

(5) Unclassified athletes (also sighted) athletes are eligible in the Champions League / Women’s Champions League. 

(6) A club must always have local athletes in its line-up for the EGCA Champions League or Women’s Champions League stage. A local athlete is a player who has played for the club’s team during the last two national league seasons (the current season counts) or in two consecutive national championships (the current year counts) or in three consecutive years in EGCA competitions (current year counts).

(7) If a team registers 6 athletes in its line-up for the EGCA Champions League or Women’s Champions League stage, four of these athletes must be local athletes; if the team registers 5 athletes, three must be local; and if the team registers 4 athletes, three must be local. The nationality of the athlete does not matter, as long as the athlete meets the above-mentioned local player criteria. This rule also applies to athletes who come from the same country as the club.

(8) A club may register EU citizens in its line-up who does not meet the local athlete criteria.

(9) A club may register one non-EU citizen in its lineup who does not meet the local athlete criteria.

(10) A female athlete can take part in the Champions League and it will not prevent them taking part in the Women’s Champions League, Youth Championships or EGCA Grand Prix tournaments. A female athlete can also represent another club in another competition like one in the Champions League and another in the EGCA Grand Prix.

(11) A U23 male athlete can take part in the Champions League and Youth Championships during the same year. A youth athlete can also represent one club in the Champions League and another at the EGCA Youth Championships.

(12) A male athlete who has taken part of the Champions League can’t play the EGCA Grand Prix during the same year except U20 athletes.

(13) An athlete who has participated in the Champions League qualification stage but whose team has not advanced to the Final Stage, can take part in the EGCA European Cup representing the same team as in the Champions League qualification stage.

(14) Failure to comply with registration rules results in a 10-0 loss in the game.

EGCA YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS

EGCA YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS ATHLETE REGULATION 2026

(1) Athletes from each gender who comply with IBSA standards can participate;

(2) Teams can consist of girls, boys or mixed;

(3) A team must name minimum 4 and can name maximum 6 athletes to its squad at the Youth Championships;

(4) An athlete who have born on 1st January 2003 or later are eligible to participate;

(5) One over age athlete is allowed (maximum one year overage) if a team has only three U23 athletes;

(6) This is a separate competition and if an athlete has played in other EGCA competitions or represent another club during the year it doesn’t prevent him / her to participate in this tournament;

(7) Unclassified athletes (also sighted) are allowed at a at the Youth Championships;

(8) A team can name maximum 2 foreign athletes to its squad at the Youth Championships. Foreign athlete is an athlete who is not living permanently or have a nationality of a country where a team comes from;
Attention: In unclear situations, EGCA may ask the athlete to provide proof of residence.

(9) In EGCA Youth (U23) Championships it is mandatory for the clubs to send with the entry form a photo of ID / passport of each athlete so that we can ensure their age;

(10) Failure to comply with registration rules results in a 10-0 loss in the game.

EGCA GRAND PRIX

EGCA GRAND PRIX ATHLETE REGULATION 2026

(1) Athletes of any gender who comply with IBSA standards can participate;

(2) Teams can consist of women, men, or mixed players;

(3) A team must register a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 athletes for each EGCA Grand Prix stage;

(4) Each EGCA Grand Prix stage is a separate tournament, and teams may participate in each stage with different line-ups;

(5) Unclassified athletes (including sighted athletes) are allowed at an EGCA Grand Prix stage;

(6) A maximum of 2 foreign athletes are allowed per EGCA Grand Prix stage. A foreign athlete is defined as an athlete who does not permanently reside in or hold the nationality of the country the team represents.

Attention: In cases of uncertainty, EGCA may request proof of residence from the athlete;

(7) A male athlete who is over 20 years old and has participated in the Champions League stage during the same year is not eligible to participate in an EGCA Grand Prix stage;

(8) A male athlete who has represented his country at the IBSA European Championships (A, B or C Division), World Championships or Paralympic Games within the last 2 years is not eligible to participate in an EGCA Grand Prix stage without special permission. Special permission must be requested from the EGCA Competition Committee, who will review each case individually.

(9) Participation in the EGCA Grand Prix does not prevent an athlete from participating in the Women’s Champions league or Youth Championships. Athletes may also participate in the EGCA European Cup.

(10) Failure to comply with registration rules will result in a 10-0 forfeit of the game. 

EGCA EUROPEAN CUP 2026

The rules and regulations for EGCA European Cup 2026 will be available shortly.

EGCA EUROPEAN CUP ATHLETE REGULATION 2026

(1) All the clubs who have taken part in the Champions League qualification stages and not qualified to the Final Stage have a chance to apply for the EGCA European Cup. EGCA Competition Committee will make a ranking of the clubs after the qualification stages and in this order the clubs will be invited to the European Cup tournament;

(2) A team must name minimum 4 and can name maximum 6 athletes to its squad at the EGCA European Cup;

(3) All the athletes who have participated at he qualification stage of the Champions League and their team didn’t qualify to the Final Stage are eligible to participate this cup tournament but they must represent the same club than in the Champions League;

(4) Only an athlete who has participated at the Final Stage of the Champions League is not eligible to play in the European Cup;

(5) Unclassified athletes (also sighted) are allowed in the European Cup;

(6) A club can use a maximum of one foreign player for each EGCA European Cup. This foreign player can also come from outside of Europe.

(7) An athlete is not considered a foreign player if one of the following criteria is met:

A. The athlete has the same nationality as the country from which the club originates.

B. The athlete permanently resides in the same country as the club.
Attention: In unclear situations, EGCA may ask the athlete to provide proof of residence.

C. The athlete has participated with the club in the national goalball league or championship competitions for the last two consecutive seasons.
Attention: In unclear situations, EGCA may request confirmation from the national goalball federation.

D. The athlete has participated with the club in EGCA competitions for the last two consecutive seasons.

(8) If the athlete has represente other club in Grand Prix, Youth Championships or Women’s Champions League the athlete can Still participate in the EGCA European Cup.

(9) Failure to comply with registration rules results in a 10-0 loss in the game.
