The 1st stage of the South Division on SEGL – Champions League 2022 season was played on 21st – 22nd May 2022 in the capital of Czech Republic, Prague. The tournament was hosted by GC Perun and the tournament director was Jan Bosek (goalball&post.cz).
Chemnitzer BC from Germany made really outstanding performance throughout the weekend and they won each of their five matches of the tournament. Goalball Niksic became the first club from Montenegro that has taken part in the SEGL – Champions League and their debut was really strong when they took 12 points along from the tournament after being defeated only by the tournament winners Chemnitzer BC.
ANDDVIS held the flag of Portugal high when the team was ranked at 3rd place in the tournament with 9 points. ASD Omero Bergamo from Italy made also their debut in the league and they managed to catch 6 points during the weekend. The host club GC Perun and CSAVH Lyon from France earned only 1 point of each when they played a tie against each other on Saturday.
Oliver Hörauf from Chemnitzer BC was awarded as the top scorer of the stage with 32 goals followed by Jan Bosek from GC Perun (25 goals) and Nikola Nikolic from Goalball Niksic as well as Fabio Oliveira from ANDDVIS with 23 goals respectively. 59-years-old Dario Merelli from ASD Omero Bergamo became the oldest athlete who has played in the SEGL – Champions League as well as the oldest goal scorer in the league’s history. The grand old man from Italy made incredible 15 goals during the weekend!
