The 2nd stage of the SEGL – Champions League Division North 2022 was held in the capital of Belgium and as we know the capital of Europe, Brussels on 5th – 7th August. There were 15 high quality games played during Saturday 6th – Sunday 7th August at the Palais du Midi in the heart of Brussels (Address: Rue Roger Van der Weyden 3, 1000 Brussels).

The current champion of the Belgian Goalball League and the bronze medalist of last SEGL season Ha. Vi. 2 Bruxelles made its debut as an organizer of SEGL stage. This was actually the first time ever that SEGL – Champions League stage was played in Belgium. The tournament coordinator was Mr. Said Gharbi (email: havibruxelles@gmail.com). Head referee of the stage was Bas Spaans from the Netherlands.

Six clubs continued their SEGL campaign and fight for the TOP 3 places in the division to receive tickets to the final stage of the season that will be held in Rostock Germany. Saltinis from Lithuania was at the 1st place after the 1st stage that they hosted in the end of February in Vilnius. Saltinis performed really outstanding throughout the weekend in Brussels; 5 wins from 5 games and they qualified easily to the final stage.

Aisti Sport and Old Power from Finland managed also to secure their places to the final stage to Rostock; Aisti grapped nine points from their Brussels visit and reached finally 16 points during two stages as their countrymen Old Power finally did by receiving 10 points from the Vilnius and 6 points from Brussels. Aisti Sport took the 2nd place in the final standings by having three goal better goal ratio than Old Power.

Aarhus Goalball from Denmark fought hard for the qualification against the Finnish clubs but their dreams were broken by Fen Tigers on Sunday morning game that the British club brought home by 13-6 result. Finally there were four points margin between the Finnish clubs and Aarhus Goalball. Fen Tigers were 5th in the division with 9 points and Ha. Vi. 2 Bruxelles earned also 9 points during their campaign but their goal ratio was not enough to raise them over Fen Tigers.

There was also a fantastic race between Dan Roper (Fen Tigers) and Gustav Koch Rasmussen (Aarhus Goalball) for the best scorer of the Brussels stage. Finally Dan Roper managed to score his 31st goal of the tournament in the final minute of the final game at the stage and left Gustav Koch Rasmussen behind with one goal margin. Dan Roper became also the best scorer of the division; the “British Bomber” made 31 goals at both stages and reached finally 62 goals record. Koch Rasmussen was at the 2nd place with 55 goals and Klison Mapreni from Ha. Vi. 2 Bruxelles at the 3rd place with 51 goals.

Saltinis, Aisti Sport and Old Power will continue to the final stage to fight for the title “European Champion of the clubs” together with the host club RGC Hansa and the TOP 3 clubs of the SEGL South: Goalball Niksic (MNE), Chemnitzer BC (GER) and ANDDVIS (POR). The final stage will take place on 28th – 31st October in Rostock, Germany.
