The 1st edition of the European Grand Prix Central will take place in the city of Wroclaw, Poland on 26th – 28th August 2022. Wroclaw is a city in southwestern Poland and the largest city in the historical region of Silesia. It lies on the banks of the River Oder in the Silesian Lowlands of Central Europe, roughly 350 kilometres from the Baltic Sea to the north and 40 kilometres from the Sudeten Mountains to the south. The official population of Wrocław in 2021 was 642,687, with a total of 1.25 million residing in the metropolitan area, making it the fourth largest city in Poland.
The event will be held at the Dolnoslaski Specjalny Osrodek Szkolno-Wychowawczy nr 13 (address: Kamiennogorska 16, Wroclaw). The tournament is organized by a brand new goalball club Wspólnie idziemy po sukces (WIPS) and this the first time when EGCA competition is held in Poland. The tournament director is Mr. Marcin Lupczyk (marcinlupczyk@gmail.com).
There are eight participating clubs from four different countries in the event and total ten teams; six of them will perform in the European Grand Prix tournament and four in the SEGL-U23 tournament. The event is organized by Wspólnie idziemy po sukces (WIPS) and the tournament director is Marcin Lupczyk (email: marcin.lupczyk.1995@gmail.com).
There are really interesting teams in the Euro GP tournament: host club WIPS Wroclaw will make its debut on international level as well as another Polish club Groundhogs Krakow. There are also two clubs from the Netherlands; the reigning champion of the Dutch Goalball League GV Waalwijk and the winner of the first ever European Grand Prix tournament that was held last year in Rostock USV Hercules. The host of the SEGL – Champions League finals 2022 RGC Hansa has sent also a team to the Euro GP tournament in Wroclaw. We are really happy and delighted that also the reigning champion of the SEGL – Champions League Invasport from Ukraine has a chance to perform in the Euro GP tournament in Poland thanks for many helpful people and partners who have made it possible. The Euro GP tournament will be played as a single round robin.
Goalball Wroclaw from Poland, USV Hercules from The Netherlands, RGC Hansa from Germany and another Germann club GSG01 e.V. – Greifswalder Hechte will take part in the SEGL-U23 tournament. They will have a single round robin, semifinals and medal games during the weekend.
