Welcome to the official webpage of the qualification stage of the SEGL – Champions League North Division 2023. The tournament will be held in the city of Espoo, Finland on 24th – 26th February hosted by the local goalball club Old Power.
The venue of the tournament is called Tapiolan Liikuntahalli (Sport Hall Of Tapiola) address: Urheilupuistontie 2, Espoo. The venue is the same than the main arena at the IBSA Goalball World Championships 2014. Teams and referees will be accommodated at the GLO Hotel Sello (address: Leppävaarankatu 1, Espoo). Espoo is located in the Southern Finland by the Baltic sea as the neighboring city of the capital Helsinki and it’s the second biggest city in Finland with 305 000 inhabitants. Please get to know more about the city of Espoo by clicking here.
The hosting club Old Power is the most successful goalball club in Finland with 13 champions in the Finnish Goalball League, European Champion in the SEGL – Champions League on season 2016 – 2017 and much more success nationally and internationally. The club is founded 1997 and it started to work as a registered sport club in Espoo since 2014. Old Power has already organized SEGL stage four times; three times in Espoo and once in Helsinki. GROUPS & PLAY SYSTEM
There is a new record, 10 participating clubs at the SEGL Espoo 2023 stage; this is the greatest number of participants in a single SEGL tournament:
Group A: Chemnitzer BC (GER), Aisti Sport (FIN), Näpäjä (FIN), Invasport Ukraine (UKR), Birmingham GC (ENG)
Group B: Old Power (FIN), RGC Hansa (GER), Aarhus Goalball (DEN), Fen Tigers (ENG), GC Perun (CZE)
There will be played a single round robin in both groups during Friday 24th – Saturday 25th February. After the group games the winners of the groups will take on the 4th teams of the opposite groups and the runner-ups of the groups take on the 3rd teams of the opposite groups in the qualification games on Sunday 26th February. The winners of the qualification games will be qualified to the final stage of the season that will be held in the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius on 28th June – 2nd July. There will be also a placement game for places 9th – 10th at the SEGL Espoo stage. The final ranking of teams is determined by performance of the teams in the group games in order:
- Eearned points
- Goal Difference
- Missed goals
- Extra throw competition (for the 1st place of the stage)
- Lot (for other places in the tournament)
There will be also the host club and the reigning champion of the SEGL, Saltinis and three best clubs of the SEGL South stage from Lyon, France at the final stage. SEGL South stage will be played with 7 participating clubs in the city of Lyon, France on 3rd – 5th March 2023.

We are happy to inform you that all THE 25 games of the SEGL Espoo 2023 stage will be live broadcasted on GoalballTV YouTube channel (click the name to get to the channel) and they will be commentated in English by Bradley Hope from England and Florim Seremeti from Sweden. Bradley Hope is a professional commentator who worked as the main commentator at the SEGL finals on season 2021 and last year IBSA Goalball European (Group) B Championships (men games together with Erkki Miinala). Florim Seremeti is the former coach of the Swedish men’s national goalball team as well as the Swedish club FIFH Malmo and he delighted all the goalball fans with his great expertise of goalball at the commentary box of the IBSA Goalball World Championships two months ago. So ladies and gentlemen you are in good hands throughout the weekend!
