SEGL – Champions League South Division 2023 tournament will be held in the city of Lyon, France from Thursday 2nd March to Sunday 5th March. The tournament will be played at the Gymnase Charlie Chaplin (address: 13 rue Marcel Therras, 69150, Décines-Charpieu). This is the first time in the SEGL history that the stage will be held in France.
ORGANIZER CSAVH LYON
The tournament is organized by the sport club CSAVH Lyon. The sports club, association Valentin Haüy is today the most dynamic and most populated club in France (with 2 men’s teams and 2 women’s teams). For the first time in French history CSAVH Lyon participated in the SEGL – Champions League in Portugal in 2021. Since then, the association has continued to participate in the Women’s and Men’s Champions Leagues and in all international competitions. With the aim of gaining experience and becoming part of the best performing clubs in Europe. Once again this year, CSAVH Lyon is writing French history by organizing the Champions League stage on national territory. EGCA Competition Committee trusted us and we are very happy and proud to carry such a Goalball event.

All the 21 games of the SEGL Lyon 2023 tournament will be livestreamed on GoalballTV YouTube channel.
PLAY SYSTEM
There are seven participating clubs at the SEGL Lyon 2023 stage and they will play a single round robin (each team will meet each other) during the tournament (21 games). There will be the Top 3 clubs qualified to the final stage of the season after the single round robin. The final stage will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania on 28th June – 2nd July. There will be the host club and reigning champion of the SEGL, Saltinis and Top 4 clubs; Old Power (FIN), Chemnitzer BC (GER), Invasport Ukraine (UKR) and Näpäjä (FIN) already qualified to the final stage.
PARTICIPATING CLUBS & REFEREES
There are 7 participating clubs in the tournament and even 4 of them will make their SEGL debut in Lyon. We have:
- ASCND Marseille (France) – The reigning champion of the French Goalball Championships will make its debut in the SEGL – Champions League but it has already participated once at the Euro GP stage when it was the runner-up of Athens Grand Prix 2022;
- CSAVH Lyon Elite (France) – The team has taken part in the SEGL on season 2021 as well as 2022;
- FC Porto (Portugal) – The reigning champion of the Portuguese Goalball League will make its debut in the SEGL – Champions League in this tournament;
- GC Niksic (Montenegro) – The winner of the SEGL South and silver medalist of last SEGL season!;
- GV Waalwijk (The Netherlands) – The reigning champion of the Dutch Goalball League will make its debut in the SEGL – Champions League in this tournament;
- Ha. Vi. 2 Bruxelles (Belgium) – The reigning champion of the Belgian Goalball League, the bronze medalist of the SEGL season 2021 and one of the stage organizers on season 2022;
- WBR Groundhogs Krakow – The runner-up of the Polish Goalball League 2022 and the reigning champion of the Polish Cup will make its debut in the SEGL – Champions League in this tournament.
