Welcome to the official webpage of the EGCA – Champions League 2024 = ECL2024 (earlier SEGL – Champions League). The season 2024 is the 10th edition in the league history. Champions League has grown and improved season by season and this time the goal is to get 22 European goalball clubs along (10 teams / qualification stage, the host club of the final stage as well as the reigning champion of the league who has secured its place automatically to the final stage) to take part in this greatest and highest level goalball competition for the clubs in Europe. Also one big goal is to break the record 6 participating clubs in the Women’s Champions League. QUALIFICATION STAGES

During the season 2024 there are not North and South Divisions anymore in the league as the qualification stages. EGCA Competition Committee has chosen following two organizers for the qualification stages.

KRAKOW STAGE: 22nd – 25th February 2024, Krakow, Poland organized by: WBR Groundhogs Krakow

BERLIN STAGE: 21st – 24th March 2024, Berlin, Germany

There are 10 participating clubs / qualification stage and three best clubs of both stages will be qualified to the final stage. The stages will run from Thursday (arrival day) to Sunday (departure day). Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the competition days.

The final stage of the EGCA – Champions League 2024 simultaneously with the Women’s Champions League 2024 will be held in seaside city Blankenberge, Belgium on 27th June – 1st July 2024.

The Final Stage is organized by Vi-Ge Noordzee and the tournament director is Karen Verwulgen (karen@vigenoordzee.be. Bas Spaans is the EGCA representative of the Final Stage (baspaans@hotmail.nl).

PARTICIPATING CLUBS & GROUPS

Line-ups of the participating teams

There are eight participating clubs at the Final Stage of the EGCA Champions League 2024: Vi-Ge Noordzee (BEL), Saltinis (LTU), RGC Hansa (GER), GC Niksic (MNE), Old Power (FIN), Füchse Berlin (GER), Ha. Vi. 2 Bruxelles (BEL), Chemnitzer BC (GER)

They are divided in two groups of 4 teams:

Group A: Vi-Ge Noordzee, Saltinis, Old Power, Füchse Berlin

Group B: RGC Hansa, GC Niksic, Ha. Vi. 2 Bruxelles, Chemnitzer BC

The groups are divided according the EGCA Champions League 2024 regulation: Group A is consisted by the host club, the reigning Champion and the runner-ups of the Qualification Stages while the Group B is consisted by the winners and the 3rd ranked teams of the Qualification Stages.

PLAY SYSTEM

There is a single round robin in both groups. Teams earn 3 points from a victory, 1 point from a tie and 0 points from a loss at the Group Stage. The ranking of teams at the Group Stage will be determined as follow:

A. Earned points;

B. Goal Difference;

C. Missed Goals;

D. If parameters A–C are equal between two teams, better is a team who has won their respective game;

E. If the respective game has finished tie, better is a team who has led at half time;

F. If parameters E-F are still equal between these teams, the extra throw competition and possible sudden death extra throw competition will be organized

After the Group Stage there will be quarter final games where the group winner will take on the 4th ranked team of the opposite group while the runner-up of the group will take on the 3rd ranked team of the opposite group. The winners of the quarter final games will continue to the semifinal and medal games while the losers will play in the placement games for places 5 – 8.

Each quarter final, semifinal, medal and placement game is played until the winner is determined. If the game is tied after regular time 2 * 3-minute overtime periods will be played with a golden goal rule. If the game is tied after the overtime periods the extra throw competition and possible sudden death extra throw competition will be organized.
