Welcome to the official webpage of the EGCA – Champions League 2024 = ECL2024 (earlier SEGL – Champions League). The season 2024 is the 10th edition in the league history. Champions League has grown and improved season by season and this time the goal is to get 22 European goalball clubs along (10 teams / qualification stage, the host club of the final stage as well as the reigning champion of the league who has secured its place automatically to the final stage) to take part in this greatest and highest level goalball competition for the clubs in Europe. Also one big goal is to break the record 6 participating clubs in the Women’s Champions League. QUALIFICATION STAGES
During the season 2024 there are not North and South Divisions anymore in the league as the qualification stages. EGCA Competition Committee has chosen following two organizers for the qualification stages.
KRAKOW STAGE: 22nd – 25th February 2024, Krakow, Poland organized by: WBR Groundhogs Krakow
BERLIN STAGE: 21st – 24th March 2024, Berlin, Germany
There are maximum 10 participating clubs / qualification stage and three best clubs of both qualification stages will be qualified to the final stage. EGCA Competition Committee makes final decision which stage a club will participate in but terms of competition calendar and economical situation of the clubs will be taken into account. Registration of participating clubs for the qualification stages will begin on Wednesday 5th July and run till Friday 1st December. Participating clubs must be a member of EGCA; your club can register as a member of EGCA by using EGCA MEMBERSHIP link from the main menu of the website.
For qualification stages there will be maximum 10 participating clubs / stage and they will be chosen with following order:
A. The host club
B. Champions of national goalball leagues / championships
C. 2nd clubs of national goalball leagues / championships
D. All the registered clubs up to ten
The countries in Europe are ranked by last European Championships (A, B and C). The list is updated on 1st January 2023 and it’s following: Lithuania, Ukraine, Turkey, Germany, Belgium, Montenegro, Israel, Greece, Finland, Great Britain, Portugal, Denmark, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Bulgaria, France, Serbia, Netherlands, Romania, Italy. All other countries are equal situation but clubs who come from countries that have own national goalball league / championships will be chosen first. Belarus and Russia are suspended from the EGCA competitions!
Qualification stages will run from Thursday (arrival day) to Sunday (departure day). Friday, Saturday and Sunday are the competition days.
Each participating clubs of the qualification stages must pay 500 € registration fee to the stage organizer. This 500 € will be discounted later from the total participation fees of a club. If a club cancel its participation at the qualification stage without a really serious reason the stage organizer can keep the registration fee as the cancellation fee. EGCA Competition Committee makes the final decision that will the registration fee be refunded or not.
There is also a brand new system with participating fees of a qualification stage and the final stage:
- Qualification stage
- Full participation fee 260 € / person includes: participation in the tournament, hotel accommodation in double or triple rooms from Thursday to Sunday, meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) from Thursday dinner to Sunday lunch and local transportation between the airport and the hotel as well as between the hotel and the venue if needed
- Light participation fee is 90 € / person and it includes: participation in the tournament, Transportation from the airport, central railway station or harbour on arrival day to the accommodation place and back on departure day, Lunch during competition days
Attention: If a club choose light participation fee they are responsible to arrange accommodation, meals (except lunch) and transportation between an accommodation place and the venue during competition days by their own. - Final Stage
- Full participation fee of the final stage & Women’s Champions League is maximum 320 € / person (includes all the same than at the qualification stage but the period is one day longer);
- Light participation fee of the final stage & Women’s Champions League is 110 € / person (includes the same than at the qualification stage but the period is one day longerd).
FINAL STAGE & WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
The final stage of the EGCA – Champions League 2024 simultaneously with the Women’s Champions League 2024 will be held in Bruges, Belgium, the date will be announced soon!
There are 8 participating clubs at the final stage of the EGCA – Champions League 2024:
- The host club of the final stage: Noordzee (Belgium)
- The reigning champion of the league: Saltinis (Lithuania)
- 3 best clubs of the qualification stages (total 6 teams)
There are maximum 10 participating clubs in the Women’s Champions League 2024 tournament in following order:
A. The host club of the tournament: Noordzee (BEL)
B. Top3 clubs of the SEWGL 2023: Old Power (FIN), FIFH Malmo (SWE) and RGC Hansa (GER)
C. All the clubs up to ten
Attention: We will first take champions of national goalball leagues / championships. We use also ranking of the countries in last European Championships (A and B Divisions) and the list is updated on 1st January 2023: Turkey, Israel, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Germany, Finland, Greece, Ukraine, Hungary, Portugal, Spain, Italy. Other countries are in equal situation with the ranking.
Period for the registration of participating clubs to the Women’s Champions League 2024 will be announced on September 2023.
Top 3 clubs of the EGCA – Champions League & Women’s Champions League 2024 will represent Europe at the Clubs World Cup 2024 tournament in Espoo, Finland!
